Here's my face #1 of the challenge, 4x6 fresh from the desk:
Then I took it to the photo editor to make a mirror image and see what happened:
Wow... really unbalanced. We people don't have even faces, but a drawing looks better if it leans more towards the evenness of features, so I worked on it some details like the ears and eye, eyebrow...
Not looking for realism or perfection, but it is less irregular. If the style is abstracted of folk, then there is no problem with it. :o) Now, if I only knew where my kid left my kneaded eraser...

That's a neat trick!! I must try charcoal for one of mine too!!
Martha, I think she is stunning, and I love the trick! You do faces so well!
Oh she is so beautiful Ayala...thank you for setting this challenge :D I already have smoke coming out of my ears planning what faces I will draw this month :D
Amazing!!
What a cute little nose she has! I'm always losing my kneaded eraser so know I have 3 and can usually find one of them. Now I've lost my white gel pen.
So cute~! I've just started my face for today, and I'll be posting a group of them on Monday or so :)
Adding my blog to the linky - hope thats alright :)
-Kaili
yes, add your link! :oD And hopefully everyone has the "share" buttons, because I will be twitting posts as well! (from you all and mine)
She is beautiful! I'd never have noticed the unevenness if you hadn't pointed it out....
Great face and trick!!!! She looks so content and pleasant!! I have been so busy today with orders and running to the post office and posting my monthly give away I haven't even had a chance to start my first face yet today, I will be soon though lol
Love it! i finally got mine posted too!
Lovely face!!! I am in on this, I hope that is ok I have only just found out about it today so I will post a few all at once I guess.
Manon yes!!! so cool you are joining! Add your linky too!
I have one piece that when I see it through the mirror it is another piece. I love your face a lot, she is so pretty! Thank you for this challenge. Have a great day!
Great idea with the mirror - she's lovely! Thank you for sponsoring this challenge - it's going to force me to get creative every day!
Pencil is just always a sweet choice for expression :)
Great way to find the discrepancies ;) I love the brightness in her eyes, very pretty. Kathryn
She looks more in earnest in the third image, that little trick made quite a difference. She's soft and intense at the same time. Is there a story behind her key?
You are all welcome!~♥~
She's beautiful!
Very nice!
I made her whole body, so she is holding a key in one hand, and a open cage in the other, but the arms were all out of proportion :oP
Pam, go see the FB event, there's a parrot just like yours♥ Kathryn Kelton made it
This is tricky! I often turn mine upside down for the same reason... doesn't always help me fix it LOL! Great start & nice drawing :)
I love her mysterious key...and yes, great idea to flip. I found your second drawing had a different energy when you did that!
Hi Ayala, I have just found your wonderful site through visiting Adrienne Traffords blogspot. I hope I am not to late but would love to join in. I will upload my drawing a little later once completed.
She is beautiful!
It's not too late! Come on on board, add your linky, and if you are in FB visit the event too.
I love her eyes. The drawing/image is fantastic!
Thanks Martha, went and looked, it is gorgeous. Mine is a sun conure, hers is a Fischer lovebird, but the same coloring except the beak, Jessie's is black! So pretty!
Wow, that is a neat trick! She has a wonderful face....friendly and kind looking :)
Ok....finally worked out the link thing...No.28 is the label link, could you please remove the other Gina link :D XXX
Just joined and am learning how to do the bloggy thing. Will post my first image to facebook too. Thanks! This challenge comes at a good time because I teach fine art at Michaels and Grumbacher just informed us that we will be teaching intermediate classes with Portraits as a subject. Got to brush up!
done! :o) Now you are 27
Great tip! Your little girl is a charmer getting ready to unlock someone's heart!
She's beautiful, and I'm really enjoying the challenge so far.
