Renaissance funk

I have no idea how to call this portrait. It started as a mildly renaissance style lady (sans all the details!) and then decided to go without a sketch. The results is pretty funky, don't you think? The first layer is black gesso, which is not my usual.
After looking at it for a while, I like the end result. She is not pretty, but has something that catches the eye, maybe the intensity of color.

I have trouble making pretty faces - so I am partial to faces with character! I think she is wonderful!

I like that blue, and her curly hair. I'm so behind with my faces because I had to go back to work this week, but it's sure been fun to push myself. Thanks so much for hosting!!

I beg to differ...I think she has that true beauty that exudes from within...I'm trying to figure out how you got such intense expression in her face!! As though she knows a secret that brings her joy!! If I were you I'd step away from her for a few days....then come back and look at her...so powerful...this piece is special.. not sure why....it just is!! Excellent... love it!!

I have black gesso that I have never experimented with!! You have inspired me!!

I love her hair! She is so classical and yet her hair reminds me of dreadlocks! Sorry I haven't kept up with the face challenge but I loved being pushed to do the ones I did. Happy PPF!
