So far not very happy...

I forgot to mention I am working on small size for my June Guys. Index cards to be precise. That in itself means nothing when it is coming from my imagination, but when I want to make a face based on an photo, it is proving to be irritating to put it mildly.
It is easier for me to work on large scale, even just journal size, to make a resemblance of the photos and I love doing that. But....
Yesterday a few male small faces were made and thrown in the trash. I wanted to make a better Javier and he, poor thing, turned out worse each time.

I draw for pleasure and I always say to practice and you get better... but at that very moment there was no pleasure, I was just in the mood to say, toss it! lol (I should've taken a picture of the ones I tossed though... just for fun factor).

So, at this point, a few changes have been made in my mind:
1- This guy is not Javier, and I am OK with it.
2-  I will keep working on index card size, not caring for the results.
3-  Some faces will be larger and not everything has to be "realistic"

With that mental pressure off my head, I will just add:
His nose in real life is crooked to one side and his mouth off center to the other; that is something that makes his face so attractive. Plus his dimples!
Anyway, here is my not-Javier portrait.

....and a video I just uploaded:

Thanks for visiting! I hope your June guys challenge is going fine! Remember, it can be ANY number, we don't have to make one a day or anything :oD But practicing always makes you better at it.

I think he looks just right. I also work on small papers for the faces. I do this so it won't take a long time.
Hope you wil havevmore fun tomorrow.

Oh my, that's why I can't keep up with you every day.... I'm trying so hard to make a drawing each day, but time is passing me by. Perhaps I should makee mine smaller then?? I use 26 x 18 cm. and that's even small for me :-)
I love your Javier; he looks quite handsome. Lovely drawing. Perhaps you are a bit hard on yourself.

Marianne, thanks! That size would be a "journal page" size for me, and it is more comfortable to work on, at least to make a make face. I can make a girl face in any size but for whatever reason, I need more room to make a male face haha
The index cards are 7.6x12.7 cms
Look for images of Javier Bardem in google, you will see my drawing looks nothing like him :oP

Well, I love him Javier or not. I'm really enjoying the inner challenge of the challenge.

I think he looks great, I am doing the icad challenge and I have to say doing small is so hard, and leting go when things are frustating is so hard too.

Your Video is perfect done. I love this and at least the hands with a rose and the hand from the woman, as a shy look. Wonderful work - thank you for sharing!
Happy PPF and happy Weekend

The one thing I discovered about painting a face a day is not to be too hard on yourself and let whoever wants to emerge on the page come out. I don't like every face I paint but it dosent matter they cant all be perfect. What always comes through on ALL your work Martha is your wonderful, unique style:)

Martha, your man faces are wonderful. You really have a knack for this. Beautifully done. Yes, the old woman face had a light touch of wet brush to it.

He's looking very handsome, you are too hard on yourself!

I think you did an excellent job achieving a Javier Bardem resemblance. Portraits can be very hard when you are working on a small scale like the one you described. Blessings!

Not Javier, but cool anyway... tough to draw Javier Bardem... I hope that is who you are drawing... this does remind me of him... that nose, as magnificent as it is , would be quite the task... xx

Sounds like we had a similarly frustrating art experience this week with work ending up in the bin on both sides of the Atlantic! Anyway, your Not-Javier still looks great!
