A Frida, a heart

Making random Fridas for the month July, along with more hearts!
I'm going to add color to her, just not sure if manually or digitally. Maybe both?

More gelatin mono-printing. I'm in love!

Happy birthday Frida!

One of my favorite painters is Frida Kahlo. I love her folkloric elements in her painting, her self portraits are very interesting, can't stop finding new things and inspiration from them!
I do not agree with all her personal or political interests but you take the person with her time, era and influences and that rounds in a sense a life.
Back in high school I made probably 11 self portraits emulating her style but with a twist: I made myself of different races and skin colors lol I wish i still had those papers!

Today is her birthday and I thought of sharing some images and  links here.

A few years ago google made a logo of her:

Her last entry in her diary made many people think her death was not natural, talking about a joyous exit and hoping never to return, but the fact is that her health was terrible and her spirits very low, she had been declining for years:

I think this is my favorite photo of her, smiling:

If you want a short version of her life, this is a very interesting page HERE

Finished painting

Just to recapitulate... Remember the Frida I mentioned HERE ?
Well, this is the finished painting. I was done long time ago but not scanned. I am slowly but surely check-marking my to do list :o)

I don't know about you, but I always love to see up close the tiny details in a painting! So here is a close up detail....

And this is a picture shows a previous layer (acrylics on 12x9 watercolor paper):
I feel sad for the painting at the first steps, as they look so furlong without the eyes.

And... hold on tight to your pencils and brushes!! Since so many people are inquiring and are interested in doing again the 29 faces challenge, well, let's do it again!
Prepare to attack those canvas, papers and journals, because in MAY we start the 29 faces II. It's Mother's day/month, but you have 2 spare days to wiggle around and still work on this challenge.
I will be posting the icon/button soon!
Thanks for visiting ♥

Day 25, painting reproduction WIP

For today, I am working on a Frida portrait reproduction. I usually love painting inspired by her, using details of elements from her; this time I'm going as close as possible just for the fun of it. I am not excellent at making a faithful representation, but I'm close enough me thinks :o)

The original from 1930 (in case you can't tell the difference ho ho ho)

And... my daughter's bunch of meme faces from the past days when she couldn't contribute:

That's it for today, hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Day 14, love!

Happy Valentine's day! For this day I made a Frida in ACEO, with a broken heart. I don't know why I ended up making a sad face, but seems it is more like her.

My little partner made this funny thing: A sock missing the other one:

I hope you had a wonderful day. I did ♥

And how could I spend a fall celebration without making a Frida ACEO?

I am posting this late, but I had no internet yesterday till very late, so here you go.

Battling techology and 5th day of 30

One thing I have learned with this episode of my dead computer is that technology can be wonderful when is working, and an annoying nightmare when something goes wrong. You would think that everything is very much mix and match, but no, it isn't.
I have been battling this goofy programs, gadgets and computers that don't seem to like to work together.
I finally found a camera that can plug to the portable, just to find out the movie maker doesn't like that particular gadget because they don't speak the same format ugh!
So here I am experimenting to see if I can upload a tiny video directly into the blog. Hopefully it will work and will not be too heavy to open.
Of course that with no editing program, the video is raw and pretty much soundless hehehe
Oh well...
The whole purpose is to show the Frida ACEO I finished. My 5th day of 30 days of posting art:

I used water mixable oil pastels. I never used them before and in fact didn't even know about them till I saw them in the craft store.
They look velvety, you can water them to look like watercolors, very transparent, like in the skin area, or make them really thick like in the background.
I don't see myself getting addicted to them like with acrylics, but they are fun to work with.

Now lets see how this post behaves. I might have to do it again if I can't come up with something else before the part gets here and I have access to my usual ways.

I better keep this short. If it works they way it should, I will go and update the other post from yesterday the same way :o)
Please let me know if it takes a long time to open! Thanks!

Day of the Dead WIP and tip

More pictures of the painting I am re-working on:

Painting Tip: When you are not sure about what to add, and unsure about how it is going to look, take a picture and printer. I have card stock to do so and be able to paint on it (which regular print paper does not always allow. WIth oils, I really don't like to mess up wet on wet, and wait...So it is helpful to see before hand.

Option A, option B... Option C?
And since I was going with the blue oils, I started to splash another piece... But that's another post :o)

Day of the dead/ Dia de los Muertos Art

I like the more whimsical side of "DoD" art. I don't like grotesque or scary images, but for this season of fall, harvest, celebration of ghosts, spirits and the dead... I like the cute skeletons, which of course  I love to mix with a spun-full of Frida Kahlo flavor!
This is the one painting I have been working on, slowly, as my hand doesn't allow for much this week.

It was hard to start painting on it but I had an idea in my mind to do a Day of the Dead painting, after finding an image in my files of an old painting I made years ago:

Twitter-Art-Exhibit (140 Charachters) in Moss, Norway

I had posted about the twitter exhibit before, but I just got an email from David Sandum about the Twitter-Art-Exhibit (140 Characters) in Moss, Norway with more pictures. I participated with 2 Frida Kahlo inspired paintings, and was so exited to hear one sold right away and the other one a few days later. This was for the benefit of their local children's Library and was a total success, having people from many countries sending art to help with funds. Here are some pictures:

It was a total success... Congrats David!

Frida's Blue Bird House

This is Frida's blue hose. If Frida was a bird. Or if a birdy named Frida lived here... Because it is a real working bird house.
...Or you can just keep it as part of the decor. It can also be used as a fancy outhouse (for a tiny midget). Maybe not.

Well in any case, I listed this original and colorful piece. It is one of those projects that took a while to finish then I didn't know where to list it,  but finally here we go!

Painted in all 4 sides as shown. I love painting on wood. See it HERE

I also listed a wood mini paint on ebay HERE

Happy Birthday Frida!

Today is Frida's Birthday, and I want to celebrate the month of July with a big invitation to all creative people,  to come join me making ACEOs with the theme Frida Kahlo. I love collecting Fridas myself and it is such an inspiration to me an many others that this is going to be fun.

So, to participate, you have to make an ACEO Art card, any material, medium, style and number of pieces. Make it original, for this celebration!
List it anywhere you want, but please send me a link here in my blog so I can blog about it and post it on FB and twitter. Sound like fun?

Come and play, we have all month to create as many Frida inspired art as you like!

Cinco de Mayo

Here is a "Cinco de Mayo" Frida. She will go to my Etsy soon, but I wanted to share this funny picture, kind of a creepy angle if you ask me:

I was taking the dolls photographs and I had an audience.
Well some people hire models, I have Panzón on the roof ha! I wanted to take a picture of him with a bandanna but he would have none of it. Dratted cat >^.^< hehehehe

So instead, I made a new avatar:

I've been busy...

Oh my goodness, May already!
I've been busy creating and finishing: A Frida doll, a bird doll and my Alice in Wonderland for ADO.
Also taking care of a poor sick child with fever since Friday....going from the kitchen to the TV room, to the computer and back to the kitchen where I set camp for my dolls to be close to my sickly kid, who by the way feels much better today thank heavens.

....And I've been spotted!
I've Been Spotted on IndieSpotting
Some weeks ago I found this cool website that blogs handmade work and all kinds of cool things.
My Frida with calla lilies made it to their front page!
Visit them and discover all the goodies they have there.

Have a wonderful day!
