Creating faces for the 29 faces challenge

This month is the 24th time I run the 29 Faces challenge! To be honest, I don't finish all on time, every time.
I know many in the blogs have participated in the past.

This year I had the best of intentions but... I got called to Jury Duty and it was a very intense thing. I did not feel art inclined in the least.
After that was all done, I decided to sit and draw, for mental health, and because I love drawing.

I want to invite YOU to take some minutes for your "me time" and for your art.
Yes, life gets busy but art is like vitamins, we feel much better when we do it!

Here are some of the faces I created

Have a wonderful day!

21, 22, 23 of 29 faces challenge

I didn't take the photos on the day I made the faces, so I have them all out of order.
It flooded here in California, very small portion in my area, thank goodness! And although we and the house are fine, there was still a lot of mess to clean. So, I have a scramble of images that I am organizing a bit late :oP
Never say I don't finish what I start! lol

Drawing a face looking up. Day 10 of 29 faces

Drawing a face looking up. This to me is one of the trickiest angles for a face!
I could use more practicing ;o) This is also done in a 2x2 inches watercolor paper.
Basically I have all the elements placed up high in the head, show the bottom of the jaw and neck and the shadowing helps.
Since I am avoiding too many details, the less lines the better, and it still gives an impression of the looking-up angle.

Drawing a face looking down. 29 faces... day 9.

Drawing a face looking down.
Part of the challenge is making the face in different angles. Yesterday I made a 3/4 to the side, and today a face looking down. The best way to create this effect is to have all the face elements towards the bottom and enlarge a bit the top part.
Then added color, I am working with watercolors this time around.
Are you trying to practice different angles too?

While I was waiting...

...for my flat tire to be repaired.

Somehow I managed to run over a HUGE screw and washer... which of course poke a hole.

Lost my tire and basically the whole, day, but hey, I had a pen and paper!:o)

Encaustic portraits

My face for today is inspired on the Roman era Egyptian wax portraits. The look mainly, not the technique, but I'm planning to work on that ;o)

This is a wonderful link for of Encaustic art portraits, very much in the subject of our 29 faces challenge and I want to share it with you. Click HERE to see a collection.

It is fascinating to me to see artwork so old in such great shape! Some are thousands of years old, some less, as in, many centuries :oP
I had the chance to see some at the museum and I just love them.. I wonder if many of them are by the same artist? A lot of them seem to have the same eye style; mysterious, deep, kind of sad.

One of my favorites:

Thoughts and Another profile portrait

As an exercise, I try to draw a photograph as close as possible. It takes me a while, but it can be done (if you have seen any of my videos you know what I mean) But if I try to do it fast, like for this 29 faces challenge, it gets complicated and my own style comes across instead.

Now, that is not wrong, after all we all try to have our own style, but that was what I meant yesterday, when I mentioned it didn't look like the original. I think I gave the wrong idea the way I said things? :o)

The spirit of the 29 faces challenge is to do something different than what we are used to. To improve a weakness, to dare working on something new.
Like I said back in May ...  Do something you have not tried YET. If you paint large, do a tiny face. If you work on ACEO size, make a large face. If you paint, draw with pencils; if you only sketch, paint a face.... you get the point.
Use materials you have not used, paint on wood; use that paper you have been saving forever... Open your watercolors or pastels; something that you usually don't do or use, or have not tried yet. That kind of thing.

Part of my personal problem is not only to work fast, -in my case-  but to find the time to scan, watermark, re-size, post and come up with some reasonable text. Sometimes I can barely think, let along say something reasonable into a post. (`^._.^')

And here is my drawing today, profile portrait, step one and two:

Unfortunately the one on left barely shows the circles and lines to work on the face.

PS:
I just noticed there's 592 artsy people following my bloggy! yaay! Time for an "almost 600" giveaway!!
Have a nice weekend!

Day 3, sweet

For the 29 faces in September challenge...
Oh how fun it is to have a holiday... but not when mama wants to paint! After this long weekend, I'll pick up the pace, at least for this piece.

And how sweet it is to paint a girl? I simply love it. Sugar and spice and all that ;o)

This is how far I am in the portrait. The lighting is horrible, but I had to take a picture when I could, you know how it goes some days:

Thanks for comments! ♥
It is not too late to join the challenge! Just add your name to the Linky or join the FB group; post in the public FB page as well. Make as many faces as you can, the thing is to have fun and get to meet cool artsy people.

So many ideas... so little time

I went to sleep late last night editing videos for my next class. I got up very early today. It takes determination for sure! And in the middle of all that, while waiting for the computer to finish chewing  some material.... what do you know but I found a super cool challenge from Natasha May in the butterfly effect.  OMG I had to be part of it!
So, I added one more video to the mix. XoD

She didn't turn out so bad, I think? Should I confess now that I am ambidextrous?  No, maybe I won't heheh I do most things with the right hand, except funny stuff like opening doors and handling keys, that has to be the left hand. Weird.

 Here's the quick video:

The crazy hyper muse came to visit me again, and my brain is effervescing with ideas and projects, I just need more hours in the day, so I better run.

Don't forget the 7th anniv giveaway HERE!!

Some more faces

Well, technically, I don't think I have 29, but some were worth 2 at least ;o]

Here is one for today. ( I counted my faces and I have 25 total. Click HERE to see the few more that completed 29!)
The new thing I did? I drew in a book! I always use loose paper, this time I used the awesome book I won in the 7 card draw (Thanks Pam!)
I'm always afraid I will run out of room in a book page, and sure enough I ran out of space hahaha But it is ok, I survived :oD

I have a few more, but will show an image of all of them together:

They are for the workshops I am making! yaay!  I am almost ready.

If you, or someone you know, would like to learn to draw the basics of face drawing without any pressure, this is the class to take. Messy and scared people welcome! :oD

Also another workshop for more advanced artsy people, with some fun painting tips and techniques.

I will upload the blog button soon!

Day 20 and fun stuff!

This is my face number 20, made in a restaurant paper place mat. Over the weekend we went to San Diego. I had to retouch digitally because the back was brown with letters "Old Spaghetti Factory" and it showed :oP:

Oh, let me tell you something before I keep going about the art stuff... in a blog I read recently, (I will comeback with the link later, I don't have it handy now) they were talking about some "love locks" they have all over Europe's bridges, where they get a lock with the names of the couple, and they leave them in there, with no key. I thought that was so cute... well what do you know I saw the same thing here!
This was not a bridge, but was just as romantic, locks with names all over the fence... we will go back and leave or lock there too ♥

we took this pic

This was made in the car, in a scrap of paper while waiting for the kids:
Kind of a creepy eyes Frida :oP

Have a beautiful Sunday ♥

Day 16, sketch of a girl

Update:
The verification code is a pain in the neck. Adds time to a simple action and kills the fun of posting a comment. Blogspot has some issues in some servers (or something of the sort) and in some cases takes several tries just to post a happy note, which at the end is a desperate cry for help. Please, if you really want visitors to comment on your blog, get rid of that plague. They upgraded it to something even MORE complicated now. Sorry for the rant.

Now to the post! :o)
I will be working on this girl with a braid, I was unsure if I wanted her holding a heart, a flower or a clay pot. As you can see, the clay pot won.

Sorry about the lousy scan. The water paper does not like to be scanned :oP And I didn't want to go heavy with the pencil. I am having so much fun with this 29 faces challenge! I will be visiting all on Monday, to upload to Pinterest as well.

This one has no rhyme or reason, sometimes the characters come like that ;o)
