Another Art Journal page

I didn't want to post anything yesterday, with all the terrible news from Boston.
Today I have this page which started as a more angular design, got lost in the layers, took a very scary turn until finally ended in something I agreed with. Has a little collage rice paper:

Thanks for visiting, have a wonderful day ♥

20 minutes...?

I have been timing myself to paint a bit faster in the hopes to loose my brush work. I get too much into detail and although it can be fun, I also admire the more abstract, free paintings.
So.. it was great to find Gritty Jane doing a "20 minute painting" activity. Perfect timing for me.
Now the thing is... do I stop at 20? So far I have, look a the piece... and keep going a bit more hahaha
I just can't help myself! But it is a nice incentive, to have the impending time stop. For those that perform better under pressure, you should try it!
This is my 20 minute stop:

This is a few minutes later:

Few more minutes...

And this is where I finally stopped. I regret nothing! :oD

I was so caught up in this, that I didn't even think of hands.
But that's ok. Thanks for your visit and your wonderful comments. ♥
Since it has details in orange, it's going to the "Mandaring Orange Monday"

Well then...

Some days are so frustrating! yesterday was one of those days... too many little annoying things to mention, and no internet connection. I just kept telling myself "this is nothing, this is nothing."

I decided to dedicate the time to paint and plan projects and better yet, take a video! I had everything settled down, clicked to start and after a few minutes puff! The battery died. And of course I am using the camera that uses a rechargeable battery. Which takes like 3 hours to recharge. ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)  agh!
So I got the other camera, went to get ready for another painting and I cut my finger with something invisible. lol I have no idea what it was! But a chunk of flesh was missing from my index and it hurt a lot! Well then!
I decided to take a deep breath and do something else.

At night the stars were better aligned I think, because everything went smoother. With a bandaged index I started a new page in my art journal and today I finished it, the video will come soon (hopefully!)

Dream!
Update: Thanks for all your comments! My finger healed after 2 days, just a little red dot now ♥ The video is HERE

I hope your day is beautiful and harmonious.

Journal page

These are the steps for a page in my art journal. It is loosely based on this painting, and I say loosely because the proportions are off and the result is comical... but I really wanted some texture and do something  from centuries ago. This detail is a Madonna by Duccio painted in the 1300's

First I made a drawing, which proved to be a hard task on the left side of the journal. Then I added a base of ochre:

Old looking little journal

I made a very quick "Art journal" to call it one way..... It is mostly a simple set of pages, antiqued and stapled together -which I think it is the wrong thing to do for an "antique" look, but I didn't feel like learning to thread in a hurry and it was a last minute thing to do for my Traveling doll, which started today. I mailed my unfinished doll to be completed by my team members and this book to make some notes. ♥
So, here are the images:

A detail of the edges. I have to say, I am very happy the way it turned out!

Thanks for visiting!

New thing for me

So, since this challenge is about trying new things, today I did my effort at drawing live. We went to Barnes & Noble and after I found a book and DH found a Magazine, we went to the cafe. As I was having a teramisu, my daughter had some extra napkins and I always have pens so we started to doodle. We have been doing that for years, since I can remember! She and I sit at a table and make funny drawing, and giggle, but this time I decided to try to draw people around us.
It was hard! They keep moving and I did not want to be too obvious and make people uncomfortable :oP These are quick pen sketches that were sort of ok :oD

* Faces 14, 15, 16 and 17!
Blond guy doing some work in his laptop and notebook:

Asian young woman reading something. She kept moving her hand a lot:

Another girl sitting near by me:

Overall, I don't think I was able to catch the real look, but it was fun.

My 4th face is a photo of a super cute kitty with 2 color eyes. They have him up for adoption but no one was there to give me info:

And my daughter, after giving up on sketching people around us, just made a cartoon of one of her favorite shows:
"-John, I'm alive!"  "-Yay! I'm so glad!"

Just a Quick Update

I have to share this picture from the Gut Art collaboration team, it is so awesome!

It has transformed into something so whimsical and fun! Fabric, stitches, and paint... oh my!
It just traveled from Milwaukee to New York, then after more work it will come to me... can't wait to see it in person! This is how it looked before, in case you missed it.

Chasing the time

I have been running around trying to finish some projects and never enough time to make a blog post. Had a complication with another project that I won't get in to just now... Just enough time for a quick twitt sometimes :oP

Well, the news are, I am done with the three-part painting. What the heck is that, you will think LoL Well, it's another of the Gut Art collaborative projects that I had no time to blog about before, but here are some close ups. (Note, I did not paint them, just added texture to them)

Added heavy body medium and brown for 3D effect

Painted a coat of crackle medium and antiquing

Added a cloud and more yellow to the birds
The painting I started is still somewhere in the other side of the planet... haven't seen what's added to it recently, but it had a house and a train last time I saw it, very surrealistic and fun.

It's Friday!  Keep creating  :o)

Make Tacos not War

I couldn't stop myself from using that title... I read it couple of days ago in a magazine. It is written in a sign made by a San Antonio based artist named Alejandro Diaz :o) I should make a sign like that for my kids when they start arguing! Actually, my sign will say : "Make tacos, not drama" LoL

Or one for me: "Make Art not Tacos"? But I know my husband will change it for "Make dinner, not art"
:oD   Oh well... as long as we have enough cardboard!

Which reminds me, in other news, the polka dotted lady that I was to paint, is gone but here's a snap of how she looked. The elments I added were cardboard wings in lavender color, highlights all over and the word "inspired" in gold. I am waiting for the next painting to arrive from NY.

Have fun creating!
